MOTION BY SUPERVISOR JANICE HAHN

Reward Offer in the Investigation of Murder Victim Vincent Bejar

On Monday, September 1, 2008, at approximately 1:27 p.m., 24-year-old Vincent Bejar was killed in a drive-by shooting at the 15100 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in the City of Bellflower. Mr. Bejar, a Norwalk resident, was walking on the sidewalk near the location when a white four-door sedan stopped in the street adjacent to him. The front passenger exited the vehicle while pointing a handgun at Mr. Bejar. Mr. Bejar ran from the location and was fired upon several times by the armed suspect. Mr. Bejar was struck by gunfire and collapsed at the scene. The suspect then re-entered the white sedan and the vehicle fled south on Eucalyptus Avenue, out of view. Mr. Bejar sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injury.

To date, investigators have limited information regarding this tragedy. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s (LASD) Homicide Investigators believe there may be witnesses in the neighborhood who may have seen the suspect(s) leave the area or know of their identity.

Although LASD continues its efforts to locate and apprehend the perpetrator(s) of this crime, the investigation has been unsuccessful in identifying the responsible person or persons. In an effort to encourage members of the community who may have information about this incident to come forward, investigators believe a reward from the County of Los Angeles will assist in their efforts to identify, apprehend, and convict the person or persons responsible for Mr. Bejar’s murder.  The previously established reward expired on April 6, 2026, and LASD requests to have this reward offer reestablished.

I, THEREFORE, MOVE that the Board of Supervisors reestablish the reward offer of $20,000, in exchange for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the heinous death of 24-year-old Vincent Bejar, who was killed in a drive-by shooting on September 1, 2008, at approximately 1:27 p.m. at the 15100 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in the City of Bellflower
